A project exploring remote motion capture workflows during the first Covid-19 lockdown
Jax Jaffar is a character created by Dynamite Design and Yudhishtir Urs to explore new tech and animation workflows.
The first wave of COVID 19 restrictions made it tricky for us to meet so we were forced to come up with an alternative pipeline.
We started by developing an iOS app that would allow Yudi to preview and record his performance using his tablet or phone at home. Once he was happy with his performance, he could then use the app to send across the recorded animation data as well as the audio file and a reference video of his performance.
This data was then used to animate and render Jax in realtime via a partially automated pipeline.
The 3D renders were shared with Dynamite's in-house team of super-designers who deployed the final videos for social media.
